Toronto, November 4th – The inaugural launch of the Biashara Africa Business Club last Saturday marked a significant milestone for African-descent entrepreneurs and professionals in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The club, Co-founded by Fatma Nadhir, Jacqueline Kariuki and Catherine Matimu aims to provide a platform for individuals seeking to connect, learn, collaborate, and access valuable resources to help grow their businesses.
Biashara Africa Business Club, a hub for entrepreneurs and professionals of African descent, was created to bridge the gap within the community. During a recent interview with co-founder Fatma Nadhir, we delved into the club’s vision, goals, and commitment to empowering the African-descent business community.
“The reason we found that it was essential to have a forum like Biashara Africa Business Club is so that we can bring the community together,“ says Fatma Nadhir, a driving force behind the club. “We have so many members in our communities that are business owners, entrepreneurs, or aspiring to start a business, but they lack resources or don’t know where to go.”
A Hub for Collaboration and Growth
The primary objective of the Biashara Africa Business Club is to create a thriving community where individuals can come together to connect, learn, collaborate, and access resources essential for building and expanding their businesses. Fatma emphasized that these efforts are geared towards the mutual benefit of everyone involved.
“It’s about making sure the community benefits from the collaboration we’re forming and the resources we aim to bring into the community, along with valuable information,” she shared.
The club focuses primarily on individuals of African descent, although membership is open to anyone interested in business and entrepreneurship. However, they encourage members to be business owners or entrepreneurs.
Geographical Scope and Inclusivity
Based in Toronto, the Biashara Africa Business Club primarily serves the Greater Toronto Area. While the primary target group is entrepreneurs of African descent within the GTA, the club welcomes individuals from various locations. At the launch event, members from as far as Calgary, Berry, and Oshawa participated, underscoring the need for such a group.
“It shows that there is a need for a group like this,” Fatma noted, highlighting the commitment to serving a broader community. “Anybody from within driving distance would find it easier to participate.”
Building Relationships and Ongoing Activities
The club plans to hold monthly meetings that encourage collaboration and relationship-building among its members. Fatma stressed the importance of nurturing these relationships for the club’s success. They intend to offer opportunities for members to engage in leadership activities and showcase their businesses while bringing in external experts to share knowledge and resources.
A Call to Action
Fatma’s final message on behalf of the Biashara Africa Business Club was a call to action. “Show up,” she said, encouraging prospective members to participate actively. “We have taken this initiative, and we will be extremely happy and satisfied if we see people showing up, participating, and growing their businesses.”
The launch of the Biashara Africa Business Club reflects the growing need for collaborative spaces that foster entrepreneurship within the African-descent community in the GTA. Under the leadership of Fatma Nadhir and her co-founders, this club is poised to make a lasting impact by uniting and empowering entrepreneurs and professionals in the region.
